Cancer Battle

Living with metastatic advanced prostate cancer that has spread throughout  most of my skeleton has been a challenge I’ve met with the Spirit of God within me—enlightening me with strategy, creativity, and heart.

Through this battle I’ve adapted standard of care treatments, participated in clinical trials, and formulated my own alternative and natural protocols. I’ve tracked my progress closely and built visual tools to understand how my body responds.

This battle isn’t just about staying ahead of the disease. It’s about connecting with God, turning data into insight, and insight into action. I share what I learn to help others find clarity, confidence, and hope.

The power of Prayer I've experienced over the past 4 years:

2022 - I'm told I'm out of treatment options except for traditional chemo and pluvicto, both are very destructive treatments and would only have given me 6-12 months life extension.  I politely declined both. Instead, I prayed to Jesus Christ and found an experimental treatment on YouTube called Bipolar Androgen Therapy (BAT) which consists of injections of supra physiological doses of testosterone alternating with castrate levels. I drove to Johns Hopkins medical center in Baltimore and met with Dr Samuel Denmeade who was pioneering this treatment. I started the therapy in early 2023 and got nearly a year out of it before becoming resistant .

2024- After becoming  resistant to BAT.  I saw a YouTube video of a world reknown professor of oncology Dr. Oliver Sartor who was professor and head of oncology at the Mayo clinic in Rochester MN. I called Mayo to try to see him but was told he is not seeing new patients.

On my last visit with Dr. Denmeade in Baltimore I told him I'd like to go to Mayo to see a world famous oncologist but  he's not seeing patients. He asked who? I said Dr Sartor. He said "Oliver Sartor? I went to school with Oliver. I'll write to him and see if he'll see you".

One week  later I was conacted by Dr. Sartor's office and was given an appointment to see him. Once there, Dr. Sartor reviewed all of my medical records, gave me 2 hours of his time and recommended a breakthrough clinical trial treatment called Actinium 225 with Dr Nordquist in Omaha, Nebraska.

January 2025 - I started the Actinium trial with Dr. Nordquist in Omaha. I got almost a year out of it before becoming resistant to that treatment. I  was again told by my local oncologist that the only thing left for me was traditional  chemotherapy  and pluvicto. So after heavy prayer, I discovered  another groundbreaking clinical trial of ABBV 969  at University of Chicago Medical Center,  much closer to home. ABBV 969 is a targeted chemotherapy only destructive to cancer cells, thus causing no collateral damage like regular chemo.

2026 - Screening scans for the ABBV 969 trial revealed spread to liver. I panicked and withdrew myself from the trial and decided to take the conventional chemo figuring it would at least start killing the liver spread. It almost killed me. I had to be hospitalized three times for debilitating side effects. I tried to get back on the ABBV trial but was told there were only 28 slots open in the whole USA and since I withdrew, I had lost my slot.

March of 2026 - The chemo caused muscle fibrosis and I developed a severe hernia which was literally hanging out of my groin. I decided to pause chemo and get it fixed then and there. I went through the hernia operation which turned into a double hernia repair. I had to wait 3 weeks before resuming chemo.

After fervent prayer I felt it was time to go see Dr Sartor again and ask him if he knew of any new clinical  trials so I could avoid that dreadful chemo. I called Mayo but was told he is now in Louisiana. I prayed about it and decided I needed to see Sartor even if it meant driving to Louisiana with a belly full of stitches.

With internal stitches still intact  I made it to Louisiana in a 14 hour straight drive. Sartor said I should never have withdrew from the ABBV trial, that it was much superior to conventional chemo. I told him I realized that but now it was too late, that they had given away my slot. He asked who was the doctor at University of Chicago in charge of the trial.  I told him Dr. Szmulwitz. He said "Russell Szmulwitz? I know him. I wrote a letter of recommendation for him for a promotion and he got the promotion. He owes me a favor".

Next thing I know Szmulwitz called me 2 days later and I'm back on the trial. 05/20/26  blood work showed ABBV 969 is working. I'm completely out of pain and continuing to feel better.

Incredibly, Dr. Sartor sent me a text message on 05/20 from Louisiana asking how I'm doing. A world famous oncologist initiating a text with me? I told him all tests looking good after first infusion. He said "wonderful, keep me updated" . Then he wrote “new treatments are emerging, keep me in the loop!”

I'm confident I've got the absolute best team of doctors on the planet  looking out for me, headed by Dr. Jesus Christ.

Prayer is powerful and God has directed me down this incredible path. He shows me the paths and I pray for Him to supply me with the strength, wisdom and determination to follow his direction.

Will continue to update here.
